Dear Friend:

Thank you for your e-mail message.

The 2004 Hall of Fame Game will be played on Monday, June 14th between the
Atlanta Braves and the Minnesota Twins, with first pitch scheduled for 2 pm.
The always-popular home run contest and other pregame activities will begin
at 1 pm . An entire weekend of activities is being planned, including a
question and answer session with a group of Hall of Fame members, who are
yet to be determined. Game ticket information is also forthcoming.

The reason that the Hall of Fame Game and Hall of Fame Weekend are separate
is because of the impossibility in scheduling both during the same weekend.
The process has become increasingly difficult over time. The alternative is
to not have a game at all, and since this is very much of a community event,
we feel it is important to keep the game.

At the same time, please note that the Hall of Fame Game is the only
in-season exhibition game allowed by Major League Baseball, so they too feel
the need to keep the game going. As Baseball has grown to 30 teams, three
divisions and added Interleague play, the scheduling of the game during the
summer months has become very difficult. An annual tradition since in 1940,
most importantly, we are delighted that a game will continue to be played.

The best way to stay informed about the Hall of Fame and all the happenings

Comments:

A group of friends and myself have been coming to Cooperstown every year for
the induction ceremony. Part of our tradition has included staying around
the following Monday and seeing the HOF game (or at least seeing the players
come in). This year and last year, you have decided to move the HOF game.
We all feel that this has taken a lot a way from the weekend.
What is the reasoning behind this? Are you trying to generate more
revenue for the town by creating another profitable weekend? Does it
really make that much of a difference? It's hard to imagine it does since
last year I had noticed the town was empty on the Monday morning of
Induction weekend when it used to be hopping.
We would all love to see the HOF gave back where it belongs, induction
weekend.
